Home has always been important to us. It is a safe place… a personal place… a comfortable place… a place to retreat. God must think it is important as well because Jesus assures us in John 14:2-3 He is going to prepare a place for us… a safe place! Yes, our home here on earth is temporary but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important.
Furthermore, home is not just important for our own personal family; it extends to others as well. Early in our marriage, we experienced the gift of hospitality. It blessed us so much that we were inspired to practice hospitality in our own home by opening our doors to others and sharing meals together. At its core, hospitality reflects the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All are welcome and do not have to earn an invitation. You find rest, provision, and safety in someone else's generosity. Jesus extends this invitation to all who will believe in Him and in His sacrificial death on the cross. You cannot earn your salvation and yet it comes at a great cost to Jesus. It also includes great benefits: rest, protection, and provision! That’s the essence of hospitality.
Ministry, like hospitality, has been a part of our family dynamic as well. We have been in full-time ministry work for almost 15 years now. Through it all, we have experienced many highs, but we have also walked through some very low times, even dark, despairing times. Sometimes we felt we had a literal red target easily marking us for the enemy. We know what it feels like to be totally depleted physically and spiritually and yet responsible for serving others effectively.
There was once a time when we were weary and had lost our vision for what God’s will was for us. It was in this season we discovered a hidden treasure in a small Ohio town. One of our ministry partners recommended we go to The InnKeeper, a retreat especially for pastors and missionaries. To top it off, it was free of charge! Since the financial barrier was removed, we were able to make our way to this countryside retreat. What we received when we arrived felt like a warm hug and a cool drink for our parched souls. Bob and Jan greeted us. They weren’t theologians or trained counselors but what they offered was a listening ear, a place to be still and know God, and plenty of prayer!
Our stay impacted us so much that we felt God putting a desire in our hearts to possibly do this one day. We even told Bob and Jan to let us know if they ever decided to hand the ministry torch on to someone else. With that, we were out the door and back into ministry. About three years ago, God moved us to our current ministry with Sports Reach here in Waco. Soon after, Bob and Jan did retire, but the timing wasn’t right for us. We felt God had moved us to Waco for a purpose. A purpose we couldn’t fully see until now.
We have truly enjoyed our time in Waco and feel so blessed to be close to family. We love our church, have grown spiritually, and have met a great group of Christian friends that meet weekly in our home for food and community. We have also taken up some fun hobbies including going to estate sales. It is fun to see different houses in Waco and see what people enjoy and collect.
About a year ago, we went to an estate sale that was like none other. As we usually do, we each went our different ways to scope everything out, but when we reunited, we were both so excited about this particular house. We agreed that this would be a great ministry house or retreat for pastors and missionaries. It was perfect: each room had its own bathroom, it was nestled in a beautiful wooded area, it had plenty of places to read and meditate, it was equipped with a chef’s kitchen, and it had a patio area with a pool and even a tennis court. But sadly, we were informed it was already sold.

The seed was planted, though. And that seed began to take root to the dream you’re here reading about now. A dream to bring this mission to life. To serve and care for those who serve and care for so many others.

We believe we have found the perfect property to bring this vision to life. You can use the link below to explore its many amazing features and envision all of the countless opportunities that it holds in store for ministry workers to come and enjoy rest.

And the rest is yet to come
